WOO HOO!
Because of my music geekness, when one of my CPs asked tonight about Steve Perry's (ex-Journey) solo career, I pulled out my CDs to answer her questions.
Ah, Steve Perry. My biggest crush from high school. His voice still does things to me. But I'm getting off track.
Anyway, I had these CDs out, so I went ahead and put his "Greatest Hits + Five Unreleased" into the laptop for my listening pleasure. And suddenly, I wanted to write.
While Steve sang to me through my headphones, I managed to bang out four pages! I ended up rewriting some of the stuff I'd written before, but that's okay, because I think I'm moving in a better direction.
But still. I WROTE FOUR PAGES!
And now I'm going to bed. [g]
(And I still find his "What Was" a gut-wrenching, emotionally touching song. Can you hear my big sigh?)

Ah, Steve Perry... He was the one who Journey "the sound". I was watching Journey's old videos on VH1 classics. Damn, he was hot back then.
As for inspiration, I've not tried the Journey albums (you remember those 12" vynil thingies), but I cranked up some old Fleetwood Mac and Kansas recently and they worked their magic.
BTW congrats on writing 4 pages!!! You go girl!!! Keep cranking up those good ole toones. Like Steve Perry used to sing "Any way you want it, that's the way you need it..."

I'm impressed that you can write with music playing. That's too distracting for me. My mind wanders. (Of course, mind wandering is normal for me anytime.)
Steve Perry is cool. I have a Journey album (yes, a real album) called Dream After Dream from 1980. It's my favorite. Kinda new age sounding.
I'm still laughing about the motsy hosen close line. That's fun to say.

Hey Silma!
Haven't tried Fleetwood Mac or Kansas yet. And my 12" vinyl thingies are packed in boxes upstairs. Got loads of those. It's cost me a fortune to switch over to CD as many as I have!
And, BTW, I've got a DVD with those old videos on it, including clips from that '81 Houston show on the Escape Tour. OMG, when I see Steve Perry in my mind, that's how I see him. Faded Levi's, leopard print shirt, and long hair. Yum!

Hey Bob!
Actually, it's all in how I listen to the music. If it's on the house stereo cranked up, I can't write because my nature requires that I dance and sing along. However, if I crank it up in my headphones, I have no problem writing to it. I know I'll sound like crap at that point if I try to sing along, and I'll look like an idiot dancing to music nobody else can hear. Puts all those urges to bed. Plus, it helps shut all other external distractions out so it's just me, my music, and my characters.
LOL about the album! I've actually got all their stuff on vinyl, including Dream After Dream. Did you know that was a soundtrack for a Japanese movie? My copy of that one is numbered. Quite the sentimental treasure to me.
Motsy hosen close. Not only fun to say, but fun to see my daughter's reaction when I say it to her. [g]
